Place of Discomfort is a virtual city center inspired by Columbus Circle in New York City. This virtual city highlights the basic elements of hostile architecture. Hostile Architecture is a type of “double-edged sword” design aimed to harm and disrupt public spaces in order to provide security ,promote cleanliness and safety. Common elements of Hostile Architecture include spikes on sidewalks, armrests or curved benches, rocks and glass on pavements or fences. All of these are basic elements of Hostile Architecture. Most of these designs are placed in public areas to target and prevent certain demographics from gathering and resting. It is complicated and inhumane in its intentions, however effective in controlling public spaces.

Elements in this city plaza include benches, public bathrooms, and other areas of resting that contain small surprises to reflect on the beauty and uneasiness produced by hostile architecture. This project neither commend or criticize hostile architecture. It is aesthetically and unrealistically exaggerated and emphasized in order to respond to the power designers and architects yield. Designers and architects alike are capable of not only designing everyday useful objects but also capable of designing objects that are potentially harmful.
